Thank you for your interest in the School of Forest Resources!

Our School’s faculty are dedicated educators and are nationally and internationally recognized for their innovative work on environmental issues. Our facilities are state-of-the-art, and opportunities for field-based, hands-on experiential learning are plentiful. Several professional student organizations are available to enhance your academic experience. We invite you to explore our website, imagine the possibilities, and contact us if we can help you in any way.

Within the School of Forest Resources we have several exciting academic programs, including three Bachelor of Science degrees in Forestry, Wildlife Management and Spatial Information Systems, and a two-year associate of science degree in Land Surveying Technology. Additionally, we offer a Master of Science degree in Forest Resources, with three areas of emphasis: Forest Science, Spatial Science, and Wildlife Ecology and Management. We also have a number of undergraduate scholarships and graduate assistantships for qualified students to assist them toward their degree.

All of our undergraduate programs provide students with a solid background in the sciences, mathematics, geographical information systems (GIS) and computer technology in addition to an extremely strong grounding in language arts, social sciences and the fine arts. Our Forestry program is fully accredited by the Society of American Foresters. This program provides students with the required skills to pass the State Registered Forester test, which is required to practice forestry in the State of Arkansas; it also provides graduates the background required for achieving the Certified Forester designation of the Society of American Foresters, a prestigious national recognition.

Our Wildlife Management major is a professional program designed to give students a broad scientific background for management and perpetuation of wildlife resources. We offer a curriculum that provides graduates with the necessary courses to apply for Associate Wildlife Biologist status with the Wildlife Society; this designation is the entry-level professional recognition for beginning a career track in wildlife management.

Our Spatial Information Systems degree features two options: Surveying and GIS/GPS. We provide a sound technical and professional package that will prepare future surveyors for a meaningful career. Our GIS/GPS concentration provides students with the technical skills to move into public and private agency positions that require high level spatial planning skills.

For students that wish to continue their education beyond the Bachelor’s degree, our graduate program in Forest Resources provides for indepth study of natural resource issues and problems. Our thesis-based program links individual students with outstanding faculty mentors and provides opportunities to pursue research topics in a wide variety of areas related to forest science, spatial science, and wildlife ecology and management.
