Figure 1.  Three-year old clusters consisting of loblolly pine crop trees in the center row (24 feet apart) with shortleaf pine nurse trees in the two adjacent rows as well as  between the clusters.  The metal poles help to prevent accidental mowing and to identify clusters (January 2000).
