Welcome to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, School of Forest Resources, Spatial Information Systems program.  The University of Arkansas at Monticello is located three miles south of the city of Monticello on a wooded campus adjacent to United States Highway 425.  Monticello, the county seat of Drew County, is located 100 miles southeast of Little Rock and 84 miles north of Monroe, Louisiana.  Included in the University's 1,600 acres are 1,036 acres of forest land used for research, management and instruction, and 300 acres devoted to agricultural teaching and research.

Situated in the pine forests of Southeast Arkansas on the edge of the rich Mississippi delta, the University is ideally located to serve the state's educational needs and provides an excellent setting for the state's only School of Forestry and Spatial Information Systems Program.

The Spatial Information Systems (SIS) program at the UA-M School of Forest Resources will provide graduates (the drivers) to meet the growing demand for a geo-technology workforce.  The Spatial Information Systems program leads to a Bachelor of Science in SIS or an Associate of Science in Land Surveying Technology.  The curriculum incorporates Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Surveying, and remote sensing technology as well as critical general education and supportive requirements.  The SIS program with the Surveying option will provide students with the tools and education to take the state survey licensure exam and become a professional land surveyor.

The program is located in the School of Forest Resources, because the School has more than 30-years experience in teaching photogrammetry, remote sensing, and surveying.  Also, located at the School is the Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL) and the Natural State Digital Database (NSDD), which has been providing geo-technology expertise and data to Arkansas and the nation since 1994.
